Before joining the Accokeek Foundation, Polly Festa had been actively managing livestock for over 15 years. Having been born and raised on Hi Diddle farm near Cooperstown, New York, Polly had many opportunities to show in 4-H at county, state, and regional levels. Her livestock experience also includes breeding various types of cows and goats including Belted Galloways, Scottish Highlands, Jerseys, commercial beef, and meat goats. When she is not working hard for the Accokeek Foundation, she is home with her Brittany Spaniel, aptly named Brittany.

Walk in the Park Series: Mushrooms and Ecology

This fall, join biologist Tovi Lehman as we explore the fascinating world of fungi! In this two-part workshop, Tovi will introduce participants to mushroom life cycles and habitats, as well as the important world fungi play in the natural world. Tovi will discuss the basics of mushroom identification and participants will take a guided trail walk to hunt for fungi.

Please wear close-toed shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather.

Learn natural ways to make home and body products that are good for your health, good for the earth, and great for your budget. We will explore recipes for natural home and body care items and will get practical experience, as well!

About the Instructor

Molly Meehan is the founder and director of Centro Ashé and is rooted in maintaining a space for the community to build relationships and share communal knowledge. Molly studied at the Self Heal School for Herbal Medicine with John Finch in Ocean Beach, California and later went on to attend herbal medicine education with instructors such as Sage Maurer in Vermont, Phyllis D Light, Zahra Ray Allen, and more. Molly received her Masters Degree in Sustainable Development from the School for International Training in Vermont, and her thesis work focused on Food Sovereignty in Talamanca, Costa Rica.  Molly currently studies with Kathleen Meier and the amazing faculty at Sacred Plant Traditions in Charlottesville, VA.  She has a strong dedication to social, ecological and economic justice and is passionate about sustainable food systems and relocalizing our medicine. Molly currently works doing community outreach and coordinating farmer training, as well as various food justice programs at the Accokeek Foundation located outside Washington DC.
